Hillview and Greenview Parks and Playground Planning

September 2010 Update:
The 4th planning meeting was held on August 30 and a survey was finalized to distribute in September with a follow-up meeting held September 20.  Status to date:

The next meeting is scheduled for Oct 28 at 8 PM at the Community League office at the Golf Course.

July 2010 Update:
"A third planning meeting was held on June 7 and work done on a Survey to be used by users of the playground/parks areas in Woodvale.  The next meeting is scheduled for August 30 at 8 PM in the Woodvale Activity Centre to work on a survey for students in the three schools;  it is anticipated that the surveys will be done later in September and then results compiled in order to complete the needs assessment aspects before proceeding to the next stage of working with various city departments."

May 2010:
A committee has been formed to start the process of completing a Needs Assessment for the Greenview and Hillview Parks.  These areas contain 3 playgrounds (in Hillview Park, on John Paul 1 school ground and in Greenview Park) all of which are requiring replacements to be done.  The committee met on April 29 and again on May 12 with further meetings scheduled.   A Needs Assessment is the first step in determining what aspects community and Park/Playground users would like to see in the area and this is hoped to be completed by the fall of 2010.  Plans include soliciting ideas from students in the 3 schools in Woodvale as well as other community residents and users through a variety of methods still being determined. Once all the information has been collected, compiled and reviewed this forms the basis of a Needs Assessment and then we will complete a formal project request with the City and begin work with other departments on what can be done in the area in view of the Needs Assessment.  Once the next steps are done, then costs must be determined in what it would take to complete the changes and what grants and other funding may be required  to do the work.  Once this last step is completed, a formal application is then made to the city for funding (grants) that may be available from the City of Edmonton;  these are in the form of matching funds available from the community (to set maximums) and available at different amounts depending on the level of work being done.  As work progresses within the committee, this site will be updated.

In the interim, start thinking on how you currently use the Hillview and Greenview Parks areas including the 3 playgrounds within these areas and what you would like to see changed or added to make better use of the areas for the enjoyment of the whole Woodvale community so that when information is asked, you have ideas that can be passed on for consideration.
