Front Yards in Bloom Competition
Do you have a neighbour or know someone in Woodvale/Tawa/Mill Wood’s Town Centreareas that has done a great job on landscaping their front yard? Then nominate them for the Front Yards in Bloom competition. What is Front Yards in Bloom you ask? This is an annual competition sponsored by the City of Edmonton, Canada Post and the Edmonton Horticultural Society in recognizing great looking front/side yards across the city. And anyone can nominate a yard!
In 2009 the Woodvale Community League became involved with the Front Yards in Bloom program and promoted nominating neighbours whose front yards had helped make Woodvale attractive in their neighbourhood. After several years with no nominations, Woodvale had a number of yards nominated and we would like to see even more in 2010! We know there are great looking yards in Woodvale/Tawa/Mill Wood’s Town Centre areas that really add to your neighbourhood and we want to know about those yards! To qualify only the front and side yards are included (where they can be seen from a public walkway) and doesn’t mean the person has had to have a professional landscaper do the work. Just that they have taken an interest in making their front/side yards attractive. It could be a yard that has just had a great improvement over something previously in place. All you have to send in is the address you are nominating (include a postal code if possible) and include your name and phone number, so if there are any questions the organizers can get back to you. Nominations can be sent in:
- By email to front.yards@edmonton.ca,
- By dialling 3-1-1
- By fax to 780-944-3300 ATT: S. Lore FYIB, or
- Through the website at www.edmonton.ca/eib
- By mail: to Front Yards in Bloom
#203, 9828-104 Ave NW
Edmonton, AB T5J 0J8
The Woodvale Community League is challenging Woodvale/Tawa/Mill Wood’s Town Centre residents to look around their neighbourhood this spring and if you see a yard you believe makes a difference to your community, send in your nomination. The nominated yards will receive a sign for their front yard indicating they have been nominated for Front Yards in Bloom.
As an extra bonus the Woodvale Community League is creating 2 categories: Front Yards for Condos/Townhouses/Apartment Buildings and Front Yards for single family homes. The top 2 yards in each category will be eligible for gift cards provided by the Mill Wood’s Town Centre Shopping Centre. Nominations close July 8, 2010 and the Community League aspect of this annual program will see the top two front/side nominated yards from these 3 areas automatically included as finalists for being judged in the 2011 annual city wide competition.
