WOODVALE COMMUNITY LEAGUE EXECUTIVE MEETING March 18, 2008 Board Members Present: Dennis Emmerling, Cheryl Emmerling, Barry Headrick, Bruce Petterson, Alice Park, Jacquie Breitkreitz, Angela Schneider, Shawna Middleton, Paul Chiasson, Kumarie Achaibar-Morrison, Christina Gray Members at large: Colleen Derrick Guests: Jay Row, Jessica VanDyke Meeting called to order by Alice Park at 7:33pm Minutes: Motion: To accept the February minutes. Moved by: Angela Schneider Seconded by: Dennis Emmerling Carried. Reports: Treasurer: Barry Headrick Barry handed out the January statements. Year to date net income is $28 000, the difference from last year’s $244 000 is due to the rink upgrades. The hall is doing better and bingo’s are down from last year. Barry moved to adopt the report for information only. Community Services: Jay Row Jay handed out the March CRC notes. The summer programs are starting up. Hillview has a drop in grassroots soccer program starting, EMSA has concerns, but it is not competitive. There was a FTHB meeting at Greenview School’s PAC meeting, Rohit presented to the PAC. Activity Center: Kumarie Achibar-Morrison The doors have been repaired and re-keyed; there will be an inspection in April. The lights on the fire exit sign still need to be fixed and a receptacle cover needs to be replaced on the east door. The ducts will be cleaned. New rental agreements have been signed with a $300 deposit to cover lost key costs. Canada Day: Dennis Emmerling Planning is coming along, still need a children’s activity coordinator. The next meeting is the final Monday in March. Membership Sales: Cheryl Emmerling There are 305 memberships sold to date. New ones are going to be ordered next month. Reimbursements: Jacquie Breitkreitz There are still no sign in sheets for the January 12th bingo; she cannot issue reimbursements without them. Casino: Angela Schneider Casino June 5 and 6th, finalizing workers, a few more spaces need to be filled. Greenview School: Shawna Middleton Greenview is applying for an artist in residence and report cards are going out on Friday. 66th Street Sign: Paul Chiasson Going well Community Affairs: Bruce Patterson Bruce wanted to have a commencement of construction posted on the 66th street sign. The decision will be made next meeting. Website and Publicity: Christina Gray Newsletter went out; Christina thanks Board for proofreading it. There were a couple of errors still and will be resolved the next month. Submissions are due tomorrow. CORRESPONDENCE AND PRESIDENT’S REPORT AGM: It will be on April 15th at 8pm in the Tournament room, need 20 non-board members for quorum. The executive positions that need to be filled are; two vice presidents, secretary and past president. Committee directors will be appointed by the executive, and directors at large will be appointed as well. Bylaws The bylaws will be updated after the AGM. Plans for skate shack and playschool: The issue will be raised at the AGM so that residents can have a say in the future of the building. The need of a playschool will be addressed, are the community residents using it or is it outside residents. The skate shack side needs a garage for the equipment, could we put a kitchen/concession area on the shack. Alice will write to the City to assistance on the storage building and will contact Rohit about doing the renovations while they are there for FTHB. We need to get everything ready to present to the City and Rohit if we want them to help. BUISNESS ARISING: Ski Night: Colleen Derrick About 170 people attended; many young families with positive feedback. Hillview Baptist youth provided coffee and hot chocolate. Explore the possibility of sharing with another league and doing an afternoon instead of an evening. Volunteer Appreciation Volunteer Appreciation dinner will be on April 12th, there has not been a volunteer of the year nominated. Mother’s Day Brunch The mother’s day brunch will be advertised in the April newsletter. NEW BUISNESS: Movie Tickets Motion: To purchase 1000 movie tickets.
